SLINGSHOT PICKS UP WATER LILIES FOR UK RELEASE

New UK distributor Slingshot has acquired all UK rights to Water Lilies (Naissance des Pieuvres) which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section in Cannes.

Twenty-seven-year-old Celine Sciamma’s extraordinary first feature is an evocative and brilliantly observed portrait of female adolescence. Set in the colourful world of synchronised swimming, the film centres around three 15-year-old-girls who experience first love in very different ways. Sciamma and her young cast have been widely hailed as among the most talented newcomers to emerge from this year’s Cannes.

Slingshot acquired the film from Paris-based international sales company Films Distribution. Water Lilies is a Les Productions Balthazar presentation, in association with the Centre National de la Cinematographie, with the participation of Canal +, with the support of Region Ile de France, with the participation of Arte/Cofinova3.

Slingshot Studios recently announced plans to expand into UK distribution. They will be releasing the first Slingshot production, Gary Love’s Sugarhouse, starring Ashley Walters, Steven Mackintosh and Andy Serkis in August.
