GUILTY PLEASURES

Release date: Date TBC

Production Company: Bunglalow Town Productions

Directed by: Julie Moggan

Celebrating 102 years of torrid love affairs and bodice ripping, the deliciously kitsch and phenomenally successful Mills and Boon romance novels are explored and celebrated in a new documentary, GUILTY PLEASURES, which receives it’s World Premiere on Friday 22 October at the London Film Festival.

Director Julie Moggan’s documentary is an affectionate, witty and perceptive homage to the books and the devoted readers who devour them. Every four seconds a Harlequin Mills and Boon novel is sold somewhere around the world, they are sold in 109 countries and translated into 26 different languages.

Julie Moggan explores the lives of some of the romance devotees, caught up in fantasy worlds of seductive mistresses and available billionaires. Amongst these avid readers we meet ballroom dancing and Beatles fan Hiroko from Tokyo; lonely dreamer Shumita from Delhi; curry-loving Phil and Shirley from Warrington and middle-aged Roger, who has been writing the novels for 13 years under the pseudonym of Gil Sanderson.

GUILTY PLEASURES probes the fascinating subject of our global fascination with romance and offers insight into why Mills and Boon romance novels provide hear-felt joy and much needed escapism to their readers.
